Peter Tessier: Flames and Oiler best measuring stick for Jets With their third game against prairie rivals tonight the Jets could learn from both team's not so far past experiences.

Don't get too excited over the opponent tonight, Flames line up is pretty watered down.
Pretty sure we will see lots of cuts after this game. When you come back to play in Calgary, that will be a much better measuring stick.

Yeah I was just going to say the same thing... Lots of rookies playing in tonight. I think they're trying to finalize who's gonna form that bottom 6 and 3rd pairing defence.

I'm sure it would put some of the jets fans minds at ease if they can win this one... If they don't it might be time to start worrying a bit

Yup! But we got Matty finally playing his first game with Monahan & Foo. After Friday's game I loved how Bennett played with Gaudreau & Ferland. Matty can distribute pucks & who better than to Money. Hope Foo shows well tonight. Wonder how Lack will fair, that's a pretty solid Jet lineup they will be playing, that boy is going to get shelled!

I like the lines tonight for the Jets, Petan and Connor getting an excellent chance to show something. hopefully Dano can improve on his horrific play and team worst analytics through the pre season thus far.

nice set up fellas, if you lose, you should have and if you win then its open season to cancel the Jets hopes this year. Bottom Line is it's pre season and there are no points for tonight, maybe the Jets are icing a slightly more NH ready roster but who cares, no points for these games. I for one will be more concerned with how Petan and Connor play tonight.

I agree. Key roles for Petan and Connor tonight. Definitely a game I will watch.

Of course Dano gets a third line role with Perreault and Lowry , not known as our fastest players, so he should at least be able to keep up with them. Might be Dano's last game as a Jet so I'm sure he will give it his all. I'm sure Chevy will try to get a 5th round pick for him in a trade before he offers him up on waivers to a couple of teams that might actually want him ( Vegas, Colorado, Detroit).

The best measuring stick would be teams in their division... The Jets have been on the cusp for awhile now. if they don't do something significant this season, can they really be expected to at any point during the Buff era..? They should have already been in the playoffs a few years running if not for crap goalchie who they never replaced....

Preseason while we play a raft or prospects I don't get too worked up over ... having cut the roster down, however, time for a closer look and - yes - time to allow our expectations to rise ... we have 3 preseason games left and I EXPECT performance to improve ... will be in stands Wednesday and watching the tube for the rest
.
As far as the season goes - I've seen it written many times: the standings at Thanksgiving (US version) is where you're most likely to finish ... if we are not well entrenched in a playoff spot at that time - blow the sh_t up ! ... that's not knee jerk - that's 6 years of waiting
.
Looking forward to another year of Jets hockey

They're not exactly making Lack's life easy this preseason! They put him in edmonton with a bunch of extras and now the same thing hasn't even seen home ice yet

Playing with the top 6 I suggested.

How was the 3rd line? Would Perreault-Little-Dano work? Can we roll 3 top 6 lines, and a Lowry 4th line devoid of the useless Tanevs and Hendrickseseses?

Useless Tanev ? Are you completely blind ? He was one of the Jets best players last night. Probably had his best game as a Jet. Made a real case for himself to make the roster.

Other key takeaways for last night:

-Lets hope Laine's agent is same as Scheifele's and not a wiener like Kurt Overhardt.
-We may have found our first PP unit.
-Petan while somewhat invisible in first half of game, played well in second half
-Connor made a lot of really nice plays.
- Kulikov was one of worst Jets on the ice.
- It certainly wasn't one of Trouba's best games
- Buff continues to look great in his new lighter frame.
- Matthais somewhat invisible tonight without Lowry and Armia.
- Dano got knocked to his knees at least a dozen times. Reminds me of Scheifele's early days as a Jet where he spend a lot of time falling down. Once again Dano showed absolutely nothing last night except how to lose the puck.
- Poolman once again played very well. Might get the nod over Chariot. The difference might be that Chariot would not clear waivers.
- J.C. Lipon was noticeable out there and involved in the game. He is definitely still the dark horse to make the roster but a possible Lowry injury could help his case.
-Mason made some nice saves but I think Helly has played better so far in pre-season.
-best Flame on the ice was clearly Sean Monahan.

You ever hear that saying about the blind squirrel and the nut? Or the broken clock being right twice per day? I'll take his entire body of work last year over one game. He was good, but it won't last. He's already in his prime as a bottom 6 AHL forward.

Also, I love the "Dano showed nothing but how to lose the puck" as he lead the goddamn forwards in puck possession. You're so cute, jetsnation.

His Corsi was high because his linemates had the puck on their stick most of the time. When he wasn't falling all over the place he was still next to useless out there. No way Dano cracks the Jets top 12 forwards, its press box or Moose for him...or better still...he gets placed on waivers.

A: his linemates had lower possession numbers, meaning they improved when placed with Dano.
B: Dano on waivers=30 claims with Chicago on the fence.
C: Dano on waivers means the trade is officially Andrew Ladd, a 2nd, and a 3rd for Logan Stanley (aka AHL lifer... so, nothing)
